Maintenance

Jaia yurts require minimal maintenance but there are some things you can do to help maintain the appearance and maximize the lifespan.

  • Ensure no water can sit around the base of your yurt.  A raised floor is recommended, but if you are pitching on the ground with a simple ground sheet, you must ensure adequate drainage.

  • Inspect all tie-downs periodically to make sure they are in good condition and the correct tension.  They should be holding firmly but not have excessive tension that is putting undue strain on the cover or tie points.

  • Apply re-treatment solution to the exterior every few years.  We recommend an initial application after two or three years of use and then an additional coat every two years.  We can supply this product.

  • Apply wax to window zips periodically. Candle wax works well for this (we don't recommend using a sticky lubricant that may attract grit).

  • Avoid using harsh cleaning products or any kind of aggressive scrubbing or water blasting, etc.  This is more likely to damage the canvas than have a positive effect.

Replacement Parts

We keep detailed records of each yurt we sell so should be able to supply components which match the design and specification of your exact yurt.  Some older yurts may not be documented in such detail but we can help you take any measurements we need to ensure a perfect fit.

Most parts will last indefinitely, but you may eventually want to replace the outer canvas to restore the appearance and weather resistance to that of a new yurt.
